PURPOSE :

correction of a protruding or recessed chin, which makes certain facial feature disproportionate; correction of facial profile

PROCEDURES :

aanesthesia : general
procedure:the incision is made in the vestibule of the mouth. The procedure involves decreasing protrusion of the jaw (excisino of the protruding bone fragment) or filling in of a recessed chin (implants, osteotomy). Antibiotics are indicated for prophylaxis.

POST OPERATIVE CARE :

Bandages are placed over the chin. Over the first 3 days, the patient is on a liquid diet, and then on a pureed food diet for the next 4 days.

POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS:

hemorrhage, infection, implant displacement

LENGTS OF TIME PATIENT MUST REMAIN AFTER THE PROCEDURE:

2 days

TIME NEED FOR RECUPERATION:

return to regular activities after approximately 2 weeks

PRE-OPEERATIVE PREPARATION:

Requires earlier visit to determine size of implant.

REQUIRED TEST :

EKG blood morphology, blood type bleeding time, clotting time
